  • Priority:

Contrary to popular belief we do respond to Shoplifting under £200, We are committed to tackling theft in the Sedgefield area working with Sainsburys, CO-OP and other local businesses to bring anyone that does shoplift to justice.

    Issued 08 October 2026

    Action taken:

Sedgefield NPT have a shopwatch scheme , allowing shop staff to share information quickly between each other, helping to detect shoplifters that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.
This month, the team have completed numerous hours of work to complete a case file, leading to a prolific shoplifter being charged for numerous large value thefts.

We would also like to thank the members of the public who responded to our recent media appeal to identify another shoplifter. An ID statement has been taken, to go along with the other evidence for the next case file.

    Actioned 08 October 2026

Over the last few months, Sedgefield NPT have felt an increase in youth related anti-social behaviour.
We work with our partners; including schools, youth clubs and the council, to work to address and prevent these issues going forward.
