About us

Local policing teams are groups of officers dedicated to serving the community. Teams are made up of officers based in the area, supported by additional officers from the wider area. 

Teams work closely with local authorities, organisations, partners and residents to decide policing priorities. This helps teams find long-term solutions to local problems.

    We are urging residents to remain vigilant and not be taken in by rogue traders who often target vulnerable or elderly people. These individuals may pressure you into having work done on your property and may fail to offer the legally required 14‑day cooling‑off period. If you feel pressured, concerned, or unsure, please contact South Gloucestershire Trading Standards for advice and support.

    Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team is working closely with South Gloucestershire Trading Standards to prevent and detect this type of criminal activity. Recent incidents in Thornbury and the surrounding areas have seen residents paying large amounts of money for poor‑quality work—or, in some cases, no work at all. Please remain cautious of unsolicited callers, and if something does not feel right, trust your instincts. Report suspicious activity to 101, or 999 in an emergency if a crime is in progress or you feel threatened.

    If you suspect that someone is using, dealing, or growing drugs—such as cannabis—within your neighbourhood, please report it to us. Information from the public is vital and helps us build a clearer picture of what is happening locally so we can take appropriate action.

    Drug activity can bring a number of risks to the community, including:

    • Increased anti‑social behaviour, such as nuisance vehicles, noise, and groups gathering late at night.
    • Associated criminality, including violence, exploitation, and organised crime involvement.
    • Fire and electrical risks from cannabis grows, where properties are often adapted unsafely, with bypassed electrics posing a danger to neighbouring homes.
    • Harm to vulnerable people, who may be exploited or pressured into allowing their homes to be used for drug activity ("cuckooing").
    • A negative impact on community safety and wellbeing, including fear, intimidation, and reduced quality of life for residents.
    We encourage anyone with concerns to contact us. You can report suspected drug activity in several ways:
    • In person at your local police station
    • By calling 101
    • Online, using the secure reporting form on the Avon & Somerset Police website
    • Always call 999 if you believe a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to safety

    Police take all reports of anti‑social behaviour seriously, and we will deal robustly with anyone engaging in behaviour that causes nuisance, alarm, or distress within the community.

    Our Neighbourhood Policing Team actively monitors reports of ASB involving young people, particularly around key locations such as local parks, schools, and popular gathering points. Officers carry out regular patrols in these areas and work closely with schools, youth clubs, and partner agencies to identify those involved, offer early intervention, and prevent issues from escalating. We recognise that some young people involved in ASB may also be vulnerable, which is why we work with families, education providers, and youth services to ensure the right support is in place. Our approach combines enforcement where necessary with guidance and diversion to encourage positive behaviour. If you see or hear any type of anti‑social behaviour—whether in this area or elsewhere—please report it to us. You can contact us through:
